"Wrinkles" is a Spanish animated film about life in a nursing home, which is more realistic compared to animations from Japan, the United States, and the Middle East, and is not suitable for minors, being more appropriate for older audiences.
The story mainly takes place in a nursing home, depicting the living conditions of different elderly residents. For Alzheimer's patients, when the condition is not severe, they can still have their own thoughts and arrange their lives, although they may occasionally forget some things. When Emílio first enters the nursing home, he is not adapted and does not know what to do. He learns about the situations of other elderly residents through his roommate Miguel. Some elderly people are always thinking about calling their children but cannot find the phone or remember if they have called; some believe they are sitting on the Orient Express heading to Istanbul for a trip; some have saved up tea bags and butter to give to their grandchildren; and there is a couple who had a romantic experience in their youth, and although the man has a severe condition and cannot remember most things, he can still smile happily when certain keywords from that time are mentioned.
Most nursing homes are actually quite similar to prisons, where the activities of the elderly are restricted, and what they can mainly do is eat, drink, relieve themselves, and daydream. Miguel, on the other hand, tries to find ways to make his life more interesting by helping or teasing other elderly residents. In the end, he finds a way to help Emílio escape the nursing home at night, but they accidentally get into a car accident while driving without a license. As a result, Emílio's condition worsens, and he is sent to the upstairs area for those who cannot take care of themselves. Miguel voluntarily goes upstairs to take care of him, and when he mentions Emílio's nickname, Emílio can smile knowingly.
The topic of aging is generally quite heavy, and there is no particularly perfect solution; more often, it requires a mental adjustment. As people grow older, they need to get used to the decline of their physical functions and adjust their lifestyles accordingly. While they still have relatively good abilities, they should try to do the things they want to do first, leaving behind beautiful life experiences, so that reminiscing about happy moments in old age becomes a good way of life. Even when physical conditions limit most activities, as long as one can still have their own thoughts, life still holds meaning.
