Diversity and multiple connections - thoughts after reading 'Social Physics'

This book discusses the study of human society using methods from physics, analyzing and predicting human social behavior through a wealth of monitoring data.

Although the book uses analogies from physics, I feel it resembles more of a comparison to biology or evolution theory. It shows that for human society to foster innovation, individuals with unique ideas need to communicate more, meaning we need diversity and multiple connections. This is quite similar to biological evolution, where species must maintain diversity to adapt to various environments, and they need to interact to promote beneficial mutations for evolution.

One of the biggest challenges in studying human society is data access. Most existing data is concentrated in the hands of governments and large companies, leaving ordinary people with little control over their own data. Ensuring data privacy is tough, and data sharing is also a challenge. Legislation can resolve some issues, but it's hard to both prevent data misuse and ensure that data is used effectively at the same time.
