An imperfect future is still better than no future at all - Review of 'Crayon Shin-chan: The Adult Empire Strikes Back'

This movie was released in Japan in 2001, and perhaps due to its good reputation or because of the World Expo in Osaka this year, it is now showing in theaters in China after over 20 years.

Japanese animated movies relied not on high-definition visuals or spectacular special effects to attract audiences, but rather focused on reflecting on human nature to express values. This film is not particularly suitable for young children, although there are some funny moments that can entertain them.

I have not watched the "Crayon Shin-chan" comics or TV shows, but from this movie, I see an adult who does not want to grow up expressing his joys and sorrows through the body of a child. The storyline has a bit of sci-fi and is reminiscent of "Black Mirror" while also bearing some echoes of "The Truman Show."

Japan in the 21st century has entered a period of slow development after years of rapid growth, and people were not optimistic about the future. In this context, whether to indulge in the beautiful memories of the past or courageously face an unpleasant future is a personal choice. Growing up can be painful, but it also brings many moments worth remembering. Experiences and emotions may be the most valuable treasures in a person's life.
